Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) just delivered the kind of quarter that reprices a franchise. Data Center revenue hit $6.72 billion, up 107% year over year, representing 58% of the total, and CEO Lisa Su told investors “We enter the second half with strong momentum as EPYC demand accelerates, Instinct deployments scale and Helios begins to ramp.”

Shares are up 128.46% year to date, yet the market cap sits at roughly $741.3 billion. Can AMD cross $1 trillion, and specifically, can shares reach $1,000 by 2031?

Why AMD Shares Are Stuck Near $490 Despite a Blowout Quarter

AMD beat revenue, beat EPS, and guided Q3 revenue to roughly $13 billion, implying 41% year-over-year growth. The stock still slipped. Over the past month, AMD is down 5.2%, though up 0.8% on the week.

Two things weigh on sentiment. First, gross margin guidance held flat at around 56%, and traders wanted expansion. Second, Gaming revenue fell 31% year over year, keeping the “not just a Data Center story” bears engaged. Add a beta of 2.49, and you get violent swings after every print. This stock trades on narrative velocity, not just numbers.

Wall Street Sees 18% Upside. My Model Says More

The Street consensus target is $579.11, with 5 Strong Buy, 36 Buy, 10 Hold, and 0 Sell ratings. That is 80% bullish. Our base case sits at $632.99, or 29.4% upside, with a bull case near $657.45 and a conservative case around $483.38. Confidence is high at 90%. With quarterly earnings growth of 91.2%, consensus estimates look reactive, not forward-looking.

The Path to $1,000 Per Share and a $1 Trillion Market Cap

Reaching $1,000 from today’s price of $489.28 requires a gain of 104.4%. With 1,630,601,000 shares outstanding, a share price above $613 puts the market cap over $1 trillion, so $1,000 clears that bar with room to spare.

With forward EPS of $8.64, a price of $1,000 implies a forward P/E of 116x. Our base case of $632.99 already implies 85x, meaning $1,000 requires roughly 31x of additional multiple expansion, or more realistically, forward EPS that ramps well past $8.64 as Data Center scales.

The EPS growth case is real. The Anthropic deal committing up to 2 gigawatts of MI450 GPUs in Helios racks, the expanded Microsoft Azure Helios collaboration, and the 6th Gen EPYC “Venice” ramp all feed operating leverage.

Su called out “exceptional positioning to capture this expanding opportunity.” The primary risk is a hyperscaler AI capex pause, which would compress the multiple before EPS follows through.

Where AMD Trades Today vs Its Earnings Power

At $489.28, AMD trades at roughly 57x forward EPS. That is a premium multiple, yet well below the 84x embedded in our base case, and shares sit just 1% off the 52-week high of $584.73 after bottoming at $149.22.

AMD is up 7,224.55% over ten years. If forward EPS doubles by decade end on Instinct and EPYC scaling, today’s multiple looks reasonable.

Is $1,000 Realistic? My Verdict

$1,000 by 2031 requires 104.4% appreciation, a demanding but achievable path. Our five-year base case already points to $1,027.42 by August 2031, so the model sees the path.

Three things need to go right: Instinct MI400/MI450 must convert the Anthropic and Microsoft commitments into recognized revenue, gross margin needs to move above 56% as Data Center mix rises, and Helios rack economics must hold. A hyperscaler capex reset would derail it. We’ve outlined the blueprint for how Advanced Micro Devices could reach $1,000 in 2031.
