Investing.com — The artificial intelligence startup Anthropic PBC is seeking to raise at least $30 billion in a new financing round, according to reporting from Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter. This capital injection would represent the firm’s largest funding effort to date as it scales to meet intense market demand.
Discussions are currently centered on a pre-money valuation exceeding $900 billion for the developer of the Claude chatbot. While one source indicated the round could close by the end of this month, no formal term sheets have been signed and the deal remains fluid.
The capital push comes as the San Francisco-based company explores a potential initial public offering as early as October. Raising significant funds now is viewed as essential for securing the massive computing power required to sustain its growth trajectory.
Anthropic leadership began considering the $900 billion price tag after receiving several unsolicited proposals from interested investors in recent weeks. The company has moved forward by engaging existing shareholders to gauge their interest in the upcoming round.
While the startup recently finalized major agreements with prominent technology giants, their participation in this specific round is not yet confirmed. These previous deals have established a complex web of performance-based milestones and future capital commitments.
Google previously committed $10 billion to the startup at a $350 billion valuation, mirroring terms from a February funding cycle. Alphabet Inc. could potentially provide an additional $30 billion if Anthropic reaches specific technical or internal goals.
Similarly, Amazon.com Inc. has moved to secure its stake with a $5 billion investment at the same $350 billion valuation. The e-commerce leader has outlined plans to deploy another $20 billion into the startup over an unspecified period.
Anthropic was launched in 2021 by a team of former OpenAI employees who sought to prioritize safety in the AI race. Since its inception, the firm has pivoted toward enterprise solutions that automate complex workflows in cybersecurity and software development.
