Ardagh Group reports 16% emissions cuts in metal packaging

Ardagh Group has reported a 16% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions at its metal packaging business since 2020, according to the company’s 2025 Sustainability Report.

The document covers the group’s two operating units, Ardagh Metal Packaging (AMP) and Ardagh Glass Packaging (AGP), and sets out developments in environmental, social and governance measures.

In its climate data, AMP recorded a 16% decline in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, as well as an 18% fall in Scope 3 emissions since 2020.

AGP posted a 17% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and an 11% reduction in Scope 3 emissions over the same period.

Renewable power represented 47% of AMP’s electricity consumption and 25% of AGP’s electricity consumption.

On materials and waste, AMP’s beverage cans contained 76% recycled content while AGP’s glass containers reached 55% recycled glass content.

The report also stated that all AMP production sites had achieved 100% Zero Waste to Landfill.

Ardagh Holdings is the parent company of Ardagh Group, which supplies recyclable metal beverage packaging and glass container packaging to brand owners in multiple markets.

The company runs 58 metal and glass manufacturing sites across 16 countries, has 20,000 employees and sales of $9.6bn.

The report lists further targets for waste, emissions and water use. AMP is aiming for zero waste to landfill by 2025 while AGP has the same goal for 2030.

For greenhouse gases, both AMP and AGP are targeting 100% renewable electricity by 2030, a 42% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, and a 12.3% absolute reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2030.

For water withdrawal, AMP has a target of a 20% intensity reduction by 2030 while AGP is targeting a 26% intensity reduction by 2030.

AGP Europe CEO Alexander Kuzan said: “Against a backdrop of geopolitical uncertainty, regulatory change and increasing climate impacts, we remain focused on delivering sustainable packaging solutions that support our customers’ decarbonisation ambitions. We partner with our customers to create long-term value while contributing to a more circular, low-carbon economy.”
