Crypto prices are sliding this morning as the conflict between the U.S. and Iran wages on. Fresh attacks today followed military exchanges over the weekend that have pushed oil prices back near $100 a barrel, heightening inflation concerns one week before the Fed is set to meet about interest rates.

Everyone from independent investors to the members of the FOMC committee will get their final look at inflation data later this week before the start of the Fed’s two-day meeting on September 15.

Right now, there’s a 60% expectation the Fed will raise rates next week, according to the CME Group’s FedWatch tool. Higher rates are a natural headwind for crypto prices since they don’t pay investors any interest.

Bitcoin, ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies are rapidly evolving. Follow the latest developments from Yahoo Finance and others here.

Ethereum is the blockchain, while ether is the cryptocurrency that runs on it. When people say they’re “buying ethereum,” they’re usually buying ETH โ€” the digital asset used to run applications and store value.

Some investors trade short-term, others accumulate their holdings slowly, and still others focus on earning a yield by locking up their ETH to help run the network โ€” a process known as staking.

Ether, the native cryptocurrency used on the Ethereum platform, remains significantly more volatile than the S&P 500 for many investors. But it’s no longer a moonshot โ€” it’s a foundational piece of a modern digital portfolio.

Here’s how to start investing in ethereum.

  • Step 1: Choose your Ethereum investment strategy

  • Step 2: Pick the right platform

  • Step 3: Complete identity verification (KYC)

  • Step 4: Fund your Ethereum purchase

  • Step 5: Execute the trade

  • Step 6: Securing your investment
