The semiconductor industry has entered a tougher stretch as artificial intelligence (AI) keeps raising chip complexity and pushing chipmakers toward faster, power-efficient processors. The shift has increased demand for advanced design, verification, and simulation tools that shorten development cycles, manage workflows, and improve performance.

Given this backdrop, Synopsys (SNPS) has plenty going for it. The company completed its acquisition of Ansys last year, expanding beyond traditional electronic design automation into multiphysics simulation, digital twins, and broader engineering solutions.

Moreover, Synopsys is strengthening its AI strategy through an expanded partnership with Nvidia Corporation (NVDA), adding another useful string to its bow. It also introduced autonomous electronic design automation (EDA) workflows with Microsoft Corporation (MSFT), now under Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) evaluation.

Furthermore, it has expanded its collaboration with Intel Corporation’s (INTC) Foundry, supporting AI-powered EDA flows, multiphysics analysis, advanced packaging, and intellectual property (IP) for Intel’s 14A process. Taken together, these moves give investors plenty to chew on after the stock’s recent struggles tested shareholder patience.

These developments also make the next earnings release important. Synopsys is scheduled to announce its Q3 FY2026 financial results on Wednesday, Aug. 26, after market close. The results will reflect whether the company’s expansion initiatives can translate into solid stock performance again after a stretch that left shares unloved.

About Synopsys Stock

Headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, Synopsys is a semiconductor design software and IP company. With a market cap brushing $80.7 billion, it provides EDA tools for designing, verifying, simulating, and manufacturing chips. It also offers pre-verified IP, including processors, security components, memory, and interfaces.

Over the last 52 weeks, Synopsys’ shares have dropped 33.13%. Moreover, it plunged 12% year-to-date (YTD) as concerns about debt and amortization from the $35 billion Ansys acquisition, weakness in the high-margin Design IP segment, and U.S. export controls affecting China sales weighed on its price performance.
