June 10 (Reuters) – A California state โ€Œcourt judge denied motions โ€Œby Meta Platforms and Google’s YouTube โ€‹seeking a new trial after a jury found them liable for designing social โ€Œmedia platforms โ that are harmful to young people, sources โ familiar with the ruling confirmed on Wednesday.

Los โ€‹Angeles Superior Court โ€‹Judge โ€‹Carolyn Kuhl โ€Œruled on the motions on Tuesday, according to court documents. The order stating her ruling and explaining โ€Œher reasoning was โ€‹not immediately available.

The โ€‹companies โ€‹had sought a โ€Œnew trial after โ€‹a jury โ€‹found them negligent and imposed a $6 million in โ€‹damages.
