Google debuts Gemini 3.5 AI model family at I/O conference

Google (GOOG, GOOGL) unveiled its newest AI model family during its annual Google I/O conference on Tuesday. Called Gemini 3.5, the company said the models combine frontier intelligence with the ability to perform actions via AI agents.

Google said Gemini 3.5 Flash will be the first of the new models, with a Pro version coming next month.

Flash, the company said, provides intelligence that rivals other large flagship models, with faster response rates, and is its most powerful coding and agentic model, topping even its Gemini 3.1 Pro.

The model is available today via the Gemini app, in Google Search via AI Mode, and via Googleโ€™s new Gemini Spark AI agent.

Google is in a constant back-and-forth race between Anthropic (ANTH.PVT), OpenAI (OPAI.PVT), and other model builders to lead in AI capabilities. The company was widely seen as lagging well behind its competitors until it launched its Gemini 3.0 in November 2025.

That helped reset the narrative surrounding Googleโ€™s AI know-how on Wall Street and contributed to its stock price climbing 126% since the company debuted the software.

That also put OpenAI, which had a first-mover advantage in the space thanks to the debut of ChatGPT in 2022, in a precarious position. The Sam Altman-helmed firm has recently decided to cut back on secondary services and projects to better compete with Google and Anthropic as it prepares for a potential initial public offering later this year.

In addition to Gemini 3.5 Flash, Google also announced Gemini Omni. The model, the company said, can generate high-quality videos via text, images, audio, and other videos. Generated videos can then be edited using back-and-forth conversations with the model.

The company is looking to strike gold again after the viral debut of its Nano Banana image generation and editing model last year.

Google also announced new pricing options for its AI services, including a $ 100 per month AI Ultra plan aimed at developers and advanced creators. The tech giant is also lowering the price of its top-tier AI Ultra plan from $250 to $200.

Googleโ€™s entry-level AI Plus plan starts at $7.99, while its AI Pro offering starts at $19.99 per month.
