Alphabet Inc. (GOOG, Financials) is getting further involved in AI-powered robots through a new cooperation between its DeepMind subsidiary and Agile Robots, which is located in Germany. The goal of the partnership is to add DeepMind’s multimodal AI models, which can handle vision, language, and touch inputs, to Agile Robots’ industrial systems. The Munich-based business has sent out more than 20,000 robotic devices throughout the world. It aims to utilize the technology to make electronics manufacturing, car production, logistics, and data centers more automated.Agile Robots claimed that the alliance would focus on increasing the performance of robots by using them in real life, collecting data, and training models all the time. The project puts together DeepMind’s Gemini Robotics models with Agile’s hardware and AI solutions that are already in use.The move fits with Alphabet’s larger plan to go into “physical AI,” which is when machine learning models are used in real-world settings. Earlier this year, the business also partnered with Boston Dynamics and other robotics companies on humanoid systems.Investors including SoftBank Vision Fund and Xiaomi have given Agile Robots more than $270 million since it started in 2018. The agreement shows that competition is heating up in the field of industrial automation as businesses try to use powerful AI in real-world systems.
