Alphabet’s Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL)opened pre-orders for Googlebook, a new premium laptop category for Android users built around its Gemini AI tools. Starting at $899, the first models come from Acer, Asus, Dell (DELL), HP (HPQ) and Lenovo, running on Intel (INTC) or Qualcomm (QCOM) chips with up to 14 hours of battery life. Alphabet shares were up 1.48% intraday.
Chromebook makers have long fought on the low end, targeting students and budget buyers on price and simplicity. Googlebook, on the other hand, pushes that formula into premium hardware with tighter Android integration and Gemini features that draft and organize text, answer questions about on-screen content, and resume tasks handed off from an Android phone. It’s Google’s first flagship ChromeOS attempt since the Pixelbook in 2017 and Pixelbook Go in 2019. The launch comes as Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) moves down-market in pricing with its $699 MacBook Neo.
