Company brings extensive experience working with utility and grid operators to the coalition advancing flexible AI data centers

SUMMIT, N.J., Sept. 16, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — GridUnity today announced the launch of the AI Energy Management Alliance, or AEMA, and its selection as a founding board member. The new coalition is bringing together leaders in artificial intelligence, data center infrastructure and the power sector to define how flexible AI data centers can connect to the electric grid and support reliable system operations.

NVIDIA, Google and Emerald AI bring global technology leadership and visibility to AEMA. GridUnity adds experience implementing interconnection and planning processes for utilities, transmission providers and regional grid operators. That combination gives the coalition a path from industry ambition to practices that can be adopted within real utility and system operator workflows.

“GridUnity is honored to have been selected for a board-level role in AEMA based on our experience as the system of record for interconnection and grid planning for the majority of Regional Transmission Owners, Independent System Operators and Transmission Providers in the U.S.,” said GridUnity CEO Brian Fitzsimons. “In collaboration with Google, NVIDIA, Emerald AI and other board members, we look forward to leveraging our hands-on industry experience to make the coalition’s ambitions actionable.”

Electricity availability has become a central constraint on the pace of AI infrastructure development. Conventional interconnection processes generally evaluate large facilities as steady loads. Flexible data centers can operate differently by adjusting demand when the grid is constrained and coordinating computing operations with storage or local generation. AEMA will work to establish policies and performance expectations that recognize this operating value while protecting reliability and customer affordability.

GridUnity’s role will focus on the practical requirements for implementation. Utilities and grid operators need consistent data, transparent operating commitments and repeatable ways to evaluate flexible load proposals. GridUnity’s interconnection and planning software can help translate emerging policy into processes that support faster decisions, clear coordination and accountable performance after a facility connects.

AEMA builds on the Advanced Energy Management Alliance, which has worked on demand flexibility and electricity policy since 2014. Its expanded mission addresses the rapid growth of AI data centers and the need for connection pathways that reflect how controllable loads can respond to grid conditions. The coalition plans to engage federal and state policymakers, utilities and regional grid organizations as these approaches are developed.

As a founding board member, GridUnity will contribute the perspective of organizations responsible for studying, approving and operating new grid connections. The company will work with AEMA members to help ensure that new frameworks can be implemented at scale and measured against clear reliability outcomes.
