IREN Rallies 6% as Microsoft Signs Off on Horizon 1, NVIDIA Grants Exemplar Cloud Status

Quick Read

  • IREN surged 6% after Microsoft formally accepted Horizon 1, triggering monthly invoicing under a five-year, $9.7 billion cloud services agreement.

  • NVIDIA’s Exemplar Cloud designation validates Horizon 1’s AI performance, potentially helping IREN attract hyperscalers beyond Microsoft for its 480MW 2026 capacity target.

  • Peers APLD, CORZ, and WULF didn’t match the size of IREN stock’s move Thursday, confirming IREN’s rally is a company-specific execution win, not a sector rotation.

  • It sounds nuts, but SoFi1 is giving new Active Invest users up to $3,000 in stock for a limited time, and all it takes is a $50 deposit to get started.2 See for yourself (Sponsor)

IREN (NASDAQ:IREN) shares are up 6% to $46.42 in Thursday midday trading after the company said Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) formally accepted the Horizon 1 data center handoff at Childress, Texas. NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) separately granted the same deployment “Exemplar Cloud” status, layering a technical validation on top of the commercial milestone.

The move is a meaningful slice of IREN’s 2026 return. IREN stock was up 15.62% year to date through the Aug. 12 close, and a 6% single-day gain adds to that base.

The rally reads as a company-specific event. Peers pursuing similarย Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) mining-to-AI pivots are not following IREN stock higher today, which frames the reaction as an execution win rather than a sector rotation.

Why Microsoft’s Acceptance Changes the Revenue Clock

IREN said Microsoft accepted Horizon 1, a 50MW critical IT load AI cloud deployment built with direct-to-chip liquid cooling and NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 systems. Acceptance matters more than construction completion because it starts the contractual service term.

Under the arrangement, Microsoft has a five-day window to test each GPU deployment against agreed criteria. Once accepted, IREN can begin invoicing Microsoft monthly, which converts a large capital project into recognized revenue rather than work-in-progress.

Horizon 1 is the first of four 50MW deployments due in 2026 under a five-year, $9.7 billion cloud services agreement announced in November 2025. Once fully commissioned, the contract is expected to produce roughly $1.94 billion in annualized run-rate revenue, with a 20% customer prepayment already in place.
