Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) shares surged 2% on Monday after the company unveiled new artificial intelligence features for its Copilot assistant.
The company introduced Critique, a multi-modal deep research system that uses two AI models working in tandem, one generating responses and a second reviewing and refining them. Microsoft said the architecture outperforms traditional single-model approaches and delivers best-in-class deep research quality.
The company also launched Council, an alternative approach that runs models from Anthropic and OpenAI simultaneously to produce separate reports, then uses a judge model to create a distilled summary highlighting agreements and divergences. Both features are available in Microsoft’s Frontier program.
Chief Executive Satya Nadella said on social media that benchmarks show Critique delivers best-in-class deep research compared with offerings from OpenAI, Google and Perplexity. Corporate Vice President Nicole Herskowitz told Reuters the multi-model approach should help limit AI hallucinations and boost productivity.
