If you’re a State Farm auto customer, there may be money heading your way right now, and if you’re not watching for it, you could miss it entirely.
State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company is now distributing what it calls the largest policyholder dividend in its more than 100-year history: a one-time, $5 billion cash-back payout to eligible auto customers, according to the company’s newsroom. Millions of customers have already received payments, with more rolling out in waves over several months across more than 49 million insured vehicles.

“As a mutual company with a customer-first focus, State Farm Mutual is able to provide value directly to our customers while maintaining financial strength to keep our promises in the future. That translated this year to lower auto rates and cash back in the form of a $5 billion policyholder dividend,” said Jon Farney, State Farm Mutual president and CEO.
How much you’ll get and how to collect it
Individual payment amounts are based on a percentage of the premium you paid for qualifying policies in 2025, with percentages ranging from 4% to 10% depending on your state.
Nationally, the average payment works out to about $100 per customer, NBC Chicago reports. In Florida, the statewide average is $173, while in Illinois, the average is around $88.
To qualify, you must have held a private passenger auto policy through State Farm Mutual between January 1 and December 31, 2025, and your individual payout must reach at least $10.
Here’s where you need to pay close attention. State Farm is contacting customers in one of two ways:
If you have an email address registered with State Farm, watch for a message from donotreply@e.sfdividend.com. That email will walk you through logging into the dividend payment portal at sfdividend.com, where you can choose between a digital payment or a paper check.
If you don’t have an email on file with State Farm, a paper check will automatically be mailed to you — with no action required to receive it, but you’ll need to watch for it carefully so you don’t accidentally discard it as junk mail.
