NEW YORK, Sept. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Global workforce intelligence firm TalentNeuron today announced the release of The Great Reallocation: Understanding the Impact of AI on Talent Strategy, a new research report examining how enterprises are reshaping their workforces as AI moves from experimentation to large-scale adoption. The research analyzed workforce strategies at Salesforce, Klarna, Wells Fargo, Google, Microsoft, Citi, and BT Group, finding that AI investment is not resulting in a single workforce strategy. Instead, organizations are making a range of decisions around workforce size, organizational structure, talent location, skills, hiring, and development based on their individual business priorities.

AI adoption is driving core AI skills growth outside of tech
The findings come as organizations continue to grapple with adopting AI effectively within workflows. As David Green, co-founder and managing partner at Insight222 explains, “AI is accelerating the pace of workforce decisions, compressing planning cycles from years to quarters, and sometimes even weeks.”
Consequently, the research found that demand for AI skills is spreading rapidly into roles that traditionally have little to do with building software. As more organizations seek ways to automate tasks and processes, TalentNeuron data shows that there were 114,419 global job postings requiring core AI skills, spanning 103 occupations.ย
No job is fully automatable
A central finding of the research is that no employee can be 100% replaced by AI, and no job is fully automatable. Instead, the tasks that make up a job can be automated at different rates, making task-level analysis critical to understanding the actual impact of AI on a workforce.
Erzsรฉbet Malzenicky, Global Head of Workforce Strategy and Transformation at Experian, explains: “You can’t design a workforce that blends human and automated capability without knowing, at a granular level, what your people actually do: which tasks make up a role, and which skills sit underneath them. Without that, you don’t know what you’re redesigning. The hard truth is that this can’t be a one-off mapping exercise. Change is now faster than most architecture can absorb. Every quarter something automates, shifts, or disappears. So, the real test of a work architecture isn’t how precise it is on day one, it’s how easily you can redesign it on day two hundred.”
In 2026, TalentNeuron worked with a Fortune 100 manufacturer to analyze its job architecture at the task level. The analysis found that 34% of roles initially flagged for elimination contained tasks requiring human judgment that were central to the company’s transformation strategy. Proceeding with role-level analysis alone could have removed capabilities the company needed to execute its strategy.

Demand for HR, SWP and L&D is rising alongside AI investment
Organizations investing heavily in AI are retaining, and in many cases growing, their HR, strategic workforce planning, and people analytics functions to help guide the development of future, AI-enabled workforces.
Across the seven companies studied, combined demand for HR, strategic workforce planning, and people analytics increased 16% over two years. Demand for strategic workforce planning skills increased 33%, and demand for people analytics increased 26%. Demand for learning and development (L&D) specialists rose 42%, and nearly doubled at Microsoft, Google, and Citi.

The organizations best positioned to benefit from AI are the ones that connect technology investment to a detailed understanding of how work gets done.
