This was an amazing endorsement by the US government in D-Wave and in our two approaches to quantum computing. We are unique in that we pursue both annealing and gate model quantum computing.

00:11 Speaker A

Annealing quantum computers are very good at solving business optimization problems. These are things like workforce scheduling or manufacturing plant floor optimization. You want to optimize some function subject to a lot of constraints.

00:26 Speaker A

Gate model systems are good at things like quantum chemistry, drug design, materials discovery, very different problem area, very important as well.

00:36 Speaker A

We are the only dual platform quantum computing company, the only company that is bringing both annealing and gate model systems to market.

00:46 Speaker A

We’re doing that because we now know that some problems require annealing systems and other problems require gate model systems.

00:54 Speaker A

Gate model systems are still very much in the R&D phase, not just for DWave, but for everybody in the industry.

01:00 Speaker B

Right.

01:00 Speaker A

It’s not so much the hockey stick with respect to the market. It’s getting those systems to the point where they can support commercial applications at scale.

01:10 Speaker A

We’re in the order of maybe five years away from that across the industry. The competitive landscape is growing in the gate model space. There are many, many competitors pursuing different technological approaches to building those gate model systems.

01:21 Speaker B

Right.

01:23 Speaker A

Continuum and IQ with trapped ions, you know, Qara Pascal with neutral atoms. Uh, we’re super conducting along with IBM or Google or Reghetti.

01:36 Speaker A

We believe that superconducting wins at the end of the day. Period. And the reason is the speed.

01:45 Speaker A

The gate speeds, the compute speeds for superconducting is 1,000 times faster than for trapped ions or for neutral atoms, the other approaches.

01:54 Speaker A

Why would you ever want a slow quantum computer? Once those superconducting systems reach scale, there’s just no market for the other systems.
